Students interested in a career in the nuclear sector are being encouraged to apply for apprenticeships.
Details of the opportunities at Sizewell B are being outlined at an online careers fair. This year’s programme offers apprenticeships in maintenance and engineering, and a graduate apprenticeship in chemistry.
Robert Gunn, Sizewell B station director, said students will learn from industry-leading experts and gain valuable experience whilst they complete their studies.
“It’s on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience that is second to none,” he said.
Meet former apprentice Beth
Beth Gant, who studied for her GCSEs at Westbourne Academy in Ipswich and went on to study maths, biology and politics A-Levels at Colchester Sixth Form College, is a former Sizewell apprentice. She travelled and worked in retail while thinking about what she wanted to do for a long term career.
She said: “I knew I didn’t want to go to uni after my A-Levels so took the time to think about what I wanted to do next. I liked the idea of hands on learning so began to look into local apprenticeships.”
