Suffolk businesses already benefitting from Sizewell C project

“Preparations for the prospective new nuclear power station at Sizewell aren’t just about jam tomorrow: already numerous Suffolk businesses are benefiting at the moment from contracts awarded by the project’s parent company, EDF Energy.”

Ashley Shorey-Mills

Ashley Shorey-Mills, head of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s Sizewell C supply chain engagement team has written to the 1400 companies on the Sizewell C supply chain portal showcasing the positive impact Sizewell C is already having on some local businesses.

“I recently met with a number of firms very local to Sizewell which have been heavily involved in helping EDF Energy engage with communities and other interested groups. It was very encouraging to hear first-hand from them as to how they’ve benefited already from the contracts awarded to them by the energy company.”

The two companies in question are Southwold-located Spring – The Agency for Change and Micropress, one of the UK’s largest independent printers, based in Reydon.

Simon Hazelgrove

“When we were first approached by Sizewell C to work on their community consultation we were delighted to use our skills and location to support this important part of the planning process. Nine years on our relationship with Sizewell C has never been stronger” commented Simon Hazelgrove, co-founder of Spring.

“Initially the Sizewell C project allowed us to diversify and work with a blue chip client that was keen to engage locally.  Our remit includes organising and presenting public consultation exhibitions to graphic design work, digital and helpline support. We help maintain the database, manage legal site and media notices and recently we’ve helped facilitate the ongoing planning examination.

“We were a young agency when this started, so much of our team has grown up around the Sizewell C project, and we are proud to support this local consultation for an issue that is of such importance to people in the region.”

Rob Cross

Rob Cross, director of Micropress, explained the benefits to his company:

“We have really enjoyed working with Sizewell C over the past few years.  Providing the monthly newsletters, helping to inform the local residents of the changes to the project, is a key role that we are very happy to assist in producing and sending out all across Suffolk.”

Rob added: “We recently invested in a new paper-wrap technology, to help reduce the use of single plastics that traditionally would surround the newsletters.  Sizewell C were really positive and supportive of this change, especially as it sits so neatly in line with their goal to help the UK achieve Net Zero 2050.”

Both these businesses are registered on the Sizewell C Supply chain, which is managed by the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.  Companies interested in finding out more about the project are encouraged to visit www.sizewellcsupplychain.co.uk for more information.
