West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft-based East Coast College and Suffolk New College in Ipswich each have courses starting in the New Year in anticipation of planning consent which would see work on site commence in 2022.

Courses at West Suffolk College cover a wide range of subjects from electrical installation to engineering and procurement, while East Coast College is offering a new course entitled Nuclear Safety, Culture and Behaviours. Suffolk New College’s offer includes Business Administration, IT and a choice of engineering disciplines.

Phil Stittle, Executive Director for Business Development at West Suffolk College said: “As a further education College we are here to support our local community which includes employers and their staff.
“We feel our Apprenticeship programmes offer employers a great opportunity to upskill existing staff or bring in new talent to ensure their organisation remains productive and current in the sector they work in. The right skills development is vitally important to ensure we continue to grow the economy in the East of England.”

Gareth Davies, Head of Supply Chain engagement at Suffolk Chamber of Commerce urged all companies looking to engage with Sizewell C to consider apprenticeships.

“It has long been recognised that the Sizewell C project will deliver a legacy of jobs, skills and education to the region,” he said.
“Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Supply Chain Engagement Team is ideally placed to create a link between the Sizewell C Supply Chain and local education and skills providers and encourages companies to take positive steps to continue to upskill their workforce in preparation for New Nuclear.”
