Introducing the new SZC supply chain team members

We are delighted to inform you that the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has undertaken the planned increase to the size of the team dedicated to supporting the SZC Nuclear New Build (NNB) Supply Chain.

Gareth Davies Head of Sizewell C Supply chain engagement writes:

As the newly appointed Head of SZC Supply Chain engagement both mine and the teams role is to support and advise local and regional businesses on the standards that will need to be either aspired to, or further developed,  so that together we can improve your ability to secure SZC related contracts. I realise I’ve not had the opportunity to introduce myself but imagine that, with the current global crisis, your focus has been elsewhere and I am delighted to join both Miles Vartan and Angela Silburn at such an exciting time.

To give a you a brief resume of my career, I’ve spent the last 22 years as an Officer in the UK Armed Forces. This service has largely been in support of the UK’s Elite Forces and Rapid Reaction Brigade, being able to deploy globally in support of UK interests both home and abroad, within 24 hours. I have a continuous record of strong leadership and management in high pressure environments including leading teams in deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. So, whilst this is my first foray in to Supply Chain (or indeed as a civilian), I learn quickly and can identify strengths and weaknesses in people in order to use them effectively, efficiently and productively. The team I build will have similar beliefs and values to ensure we remain fully focused on supporting both EDF and the Local and Regional Business Community.

I am also delighted that we have recruited Sheline Gledhill to manage EDF Supply Chain Engagement Events and Communications. Sheline has spent her career to date in publishing, most recently with Archant Suffolk on the East Anglian Daily Times’ business desk editing Business East Monthly. She worked closely with the Chamber in that role and is looking forward to reconnecting with the local business community after a career break that took her overseas.

As soon as we are able we hope to deliver events, meeting and webinars designed to improve your understanding of the NNB regulatory requirements and training as well as meet the buyer events. In the short term however, our goal is to begin communicating with you digitally and ensuring that EDF communication is getting to you in an accurate and timely manner.

In light of the current global Covid-19 crisis it is recognised that many businesses face significant uncertainty and that Coronavirus continues to impact operations across the county and indeed the UK.  In spite of this, it is hoped the delivery of SZC will present a significant, and much needed, economic boost and the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce remains dedicated to supporting the SZC NNB. I look forward to more stable times when I will have the opportunity to meet you personally but until then please don’t hesitate to get in touch for any support that you feel that you need. In the interim, I would urge you to ensure that your details are up to date on the SZC Supply Chain Portal www.sizewellcsupplychain.co.uk   and that you have completed all of the required details.
