Miles Vartan on ISO

Over the last two years ISO standards have been realigned against a framework called Annex SL designed by the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI). If current ISO 9001:2008, Quality Management System holders want to retain the standard they have to be reassessed against the 2015 version by the 23rd September 2018. Occupational Health & Safety, ISO 45001, as part of its structure, now matches Annex SL; a great help for applicants.

EDF believe all harm is preventable, aligning all their policies to ‘Zero Harm’ working to make sure that their workplaces are safe and healthy for everyone. Every meeting at EDF starts with those attending discussing EDF’s Daily Safety Message. Getting your health & safety culture right is key; certificates on the wall are great, but unless every word of the policy is adhered to every day then often the policy is not demonstrable on the ground.

For those who are serious about tendering for work at any EDF Nuclear New-build, having been successfully externally assessed against ISO Safety, Quality and Environmental criteria as a minimum will improve chances of moving through the respective PQQ process.
